ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating an early Thursday morning shooting that left a middle-aged man injured.
According to the agency, the incident occurred in the 900 block of 24th Avenue South shortly after 6 a.m. Feb. 16. Police say Mary Starling Shirley, 66, saw a man she didn’t know breaking into her house through a window.
“She warned the man that she was armed and shot the intruder when he did not retreat,” an email from the agency said. Shirley, the agency announced early Thursday afternoon, used a large caliber revolver to fire the shot.
