Local author featured in story time at St. Pete Beach Library

Pinellas Beaches author Sherry Duquet will be reading her best-selling book, “Violet the Hugging Octopus” on Friday, June 24 at 3p.m. in the St. Pete Beach Public Library. The story time event is part of the Library’s “Oceans of Possibilities” summer reading program. Gather near the story time stage in the Library, located at 365 73rd Avenue, St. Pete Beach, Fl. 33706.

Children and adults are invited to join in the visit. Ms. Duquet will read “Violet” in her signature animated style, sharing the joy of self-love with both littles and bigs. Everyone will be invited to participate with Ms. Duquet in the self-hugging technique for all to enjoy.

A brief Q&A will follow to ask the author about the characters in the book, being an author or more insight about the scenes behind the undersea tale. The Seaside Chat questions in the back of the book may be a source for more audience participation, with words of positive self-esteem woven into the discussion. Additionally, a limited number of copies of the book will be available for purchase and can be personalized by Ms. Duquet. Free Violet themed coloring pages and puzzles will also be provided for guests.

In Violet the Hugging Octopus readers meet Violet swimming with confidence and bursting with joy. Along the way, she greets her friends Pufferfish, Moray Eel, Jumbo Shrimp and Stinging Ray. She is openly happy which excites their curiosity. What is her secret? How is she so happy? Her friends wonder, can they be that happy too?
