Machete On Campus Leads To Teen’s Arrest

A 28-inch machete was concealed in a trombone case found on the Lakewood High campus Wednesday.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The St. Petersburg Police Department has announced the arrest of an 18-year-old Lakewood High School student following the discovery of a machete on campus.

According to the department, the boy had a 28-inch machete stowed inside a trombone case that was found in the school’s band room on Wednesday.

“It was discovered when another student opened the case to use the instrument,” an email from police said.

The teen, identified as Daquan Maybell, later told police he brought the machete with him because he was planning to do yard work after school, the email said.

“Weapons of any kind are not permitted on school property,” the email noted.
