Man Dies After Being Thrown From Boat By FL Bridge

The victim was thrown from a boat he was testing out near Bay Pines Bridge in St. Petersburg, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A man died Wednesday afternoon after being thrown from a boat he was testing out near Bay Pines Bridge in St. Petersburg, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Deputies responded to reports of an unmanned boat that crashed into Stebbins Island in the area of 9600 Bay Pines Boulevard just before 3 p.m.

Investigators learned that the victim, 56-year-old Pal Pataki of Clearwater, had taken the boat out on a sea trial, PCSO said.

As he was driving the boat, he was thrown into the water. Pataki’s body was found and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of death is under investigation but doesn’t seem to be suspicious, the sheriff’s office said. Impairment doesn’t appear to be a factor in the crash.
