Man In Electric Wheelchair Killed By Car In St. Pete: Troopers

A car hit and killed a man crossing a St. Petersburg street in an electric wheelchair Monday evening, Florida Highway Patrol said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A 68-year-old man who was in an electric wheelchair on County Road 16 was hit and killed by a car Monday evening in St. Petersburg, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The victim tried to cross the street eastbound at the intersection of Park Street and CR 16 just before 6:52 p.m. A car driven northbound on Park Street by a 57-year-old St. Pete man crashed into the electric wheelchair at 6:52 p.m., according to authorities.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he later died, investigators said.
