Man On Motorized Scooter Hit, Killed By PSTA Bus: St. Pete Police
The man, who celebrated his 65th birthday that day, was hit by a bus Tuesday near 22nd Avenue N. and the Pinellas Trail, police said.
ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A man on a motorized scooter was hit and killed by a PSTA bus on Tuesday, which was his 65th birthday, according to a St. Petersburg Police Department news release.
Deanna Grayston, 53, of St. Petersburg was driving the bus, which had 10 passengers aboard, west in the 7000 block of 22nd Avenue North just after 11 a.m. The bus was traveling in the curb lane as it approached the Pinellas Trail crosswalk.
A pedestrian activated the trail crosswalk signal on 22nd Avenue N. and started to cross south to north.

At the same time, the 65-year-old man on a motorized scooter was traveling south on the Pinellas Trail approaching 22nd Avenue N., police said. He also tried to cross the trail crosswalk, north to south, and was hit by the bus.
Traffic investigators said the PSTA bus failed to yield to pedestrian traffic at the trail crosswalk on 22nd Avenue North, SPPD said.

The victim was brought to St. Petersburg Hospital - HCA Florida Healthcare, where he died from his injuries. His name hasn’t been released pending notification of his next of kin.
None of the bus passengers were injured.
