Pedestrian Killed In St. Pete Hit-And-Run

A search is on for a motorist involved in a fatal Monday night hit-and-run on 49th Street North

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The St. Petersburg Police Department is asking for help locating a motorist involved in a fatal Monday night hit-and-run.

According to the agency, a person was killed by a SUV in the 3500 block of 49th Street North around 10:30 p.m. Jan. 9. That person, described only as a “transient pedestrian” by police, was sitting in the northbound median lane, near the double yellow lines, an email from the agency said.

An eyewitness happened to notice the person and was slowing to block the roadway. At that time, however, a light-colored, full-sized SUV struck the person, slowed and then took off, the email noted.
