Pinellas County Cold Weather Shelters Open For 2 Nights

Pinellas County residents in need of shelter from the cold will find locations open to serve them.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — With temperatures throughout the Tampa Bay area expected to reach near freezing over the next night or two, Pinellas County has announced plans to open its cold weather shelters Saturday and Sunday nights.

Most of the county’s shelters will open between 6 and 6:30 p.m. both Jan. 7 and Jan. 8. They accept guests all night long, but do close at 6 a.m.

“Shelter guests are provided a hot evening meal, a warm safe place to spend the night, and breakfast the following morning,” the county said in announcing the openings.

The following shelters for adult men and women will open Saturday and Sunday:

Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church-Primary Shelter

Families in need of shelter are asked to call 2-1-1 to make arrangements.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Ruskin anticipate Saturday night’s overnight low with wind chills included will drop into the teens to 20s.
