Popular Meat Products Recalled In FL Due To Plastic, Bones: Details

FLORIDA — Check your freezer shoppers: Food safety officials have announced two new recalls affecting popular meat products sold in Florida.

About 245,000 pounds of Banquet frozen chicken strips entrées sold nationwide and online have been recalled because they may contain plastic, according to the notice from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The agency also announced the recall of about 15,000 pounds of Hillshire sausage that may contain bones. The sausage was distributed to retail stores in Maryland, Virginia, California, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

Banquet Chicken Strips Meal: What To Know

Conagra Brands Inc., owner of Banquet Foods, notified food safety inspectors it had received a complaint from a consumer whose mouth had been injured while eating a chicken strip that contained plastic, according to the notice. No other injuries and illnesses have been reported. Here are the product labels.

The meals were produced June 20, July 11 and July 17. They include an 8.9-ounce carton containing one entrée with:

  • Best if-used-by dates of Dec. 11, 2024, Jan. 1, 2025 or Jan. 7, 2025 printed on the side of the carton;
  • Lot numbers 5009317120, 5009319220, or 5009319820 located on the side of the carton;
  • Establishment number EST. P-9 printed on the side of the carton.

One person reported an oral injury while eating the product and others lodged complaints of bone in the product with both the manufacturer, Hillshire Brands Inc. of St. Joseph, Missouri, and the Food Safety Inspection Service. The agency said it has not received any other reports of injuries or illnesses. Here is the product label.

The sausage items were produced June 14. The 14-ounce cryovac package contains one rope of sausage with:

  • Lot codes in the form of the establishment number, line number and time of production in hours:minutes:seconds, "EST. 756A 20 19:00:00 through 21:59:59 and EST. 756A 21 19:00:00 through 21:59:59" and use by date of "Nov 11 23" printed on the front of the package.
