RNC Barricades Continue to Go Up

The barricades started being placed over the weekend and will continue to go up until the RNC kick-off party on Aug. 26.

On Aug. 26, around 20,000 delegates and members of the media will be wining and dining inside Tropicana Field while the surrounding areas look like a fortress.

Designated a National Special Security Event (NSSE), by the Department of Homeland Security, the areas surrounding the Trop will see strict road and sidewalk regulations this weekend.

Barricade fencing has been installed around Tropicana Field, from Fifth Ave. S. to between 18th and 19th Sts. S. and along 16th St. to First Ave. S. The area also includes a small portion of 16th St. S. and 10th St. S. Fencing is  also in place around the St. Petersburg Police Department, roughly bordering  16th St. N. and Second Ave. N. to the north and First Ave. N. and Central Ave. to the south. Fencing will remain up through Sunday, Sept. 2.
