Library Patrons In St. Pete Can Say "Goodbye" To Overdue Fees
A new way of dealing with overdue books at local libraries takes effect Oct. 1. Find out the changes here.
ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Changes of overdue library fees in St. Petersburg take effect Friday.
The St. Petersburg Library System has eliminated overdue fees, the city said. Existing overdue fines prior to Oct. 1 will be eliminated, however charges for lost and damaged items will remain on borrower accounts. Loan periods and the number of items that can be borrowed will stay the same.
If items are not returned by the due date, accounts will be blocked. When items are 10 days overdue, borrowers will be billed the replacement cost of the items plus processing fees. Borrowers with blocked accounts are not able to borrow any library materials, including electronic items via Libby/Overdrive. When items are returned in good condition, accounts are unblocked, and all fees are removed.
