Getting Dirty at St. Pete Mud Wars

Although the event started out as an annual summer event for area teens, adults are joining in on the fun too.

Extreme Mud Wars took over on Saturday and Sunday, with hundreds of folks competing and having some good, not-so-clean fun. Portions of the proceeds were donated to TASCO while the money from beer sales was given to the .

The event was sponsored by Tampa Bay Club Sport, a group that is home to a number of organized sports leagues.

When Extreme Mud Wars began, it was an annual summer event for the city's teens. It takes place at the city rec center. Over time, the idea was thrown around to host an adult mud wars. Years later, the Extreme Mud Wars for adults is a sellout event.

Extreme Mud Wars is usually a one day event, but so many folks wanted to compete this year, Tampa Bay Club Sport had to tag on a second day.

The competition was divided into eight events: dodgeball, belly bumpers, jousting, the obstacle course, tug-of-war, eliminator, football and the ball crawl. Teams raked in points for their performance in each event.

Extreme Mud Wars 2013 is expected to be an even bigger success and those interested in participating can stay up to date but visiting Tampa Bay Club Sport online.
