Taking the Bus for the Future of Transit
Protesters will ride the bus to Monday's PSTA meeting to show support for more public transit in Pinellas County.

Monday marks the first day of national "Dump the Pump" week and local groups will be taking part in a demonstration by riding the bus to PSTA's meeting to voice support for mass transit.
At 11:15 a.m. the group will get on bus #52 at the Grand Central bus station to PSTA's offices. A second bus leaves at 11:45 am.
Groups participating Monday's demonstrations are the Sierra Club and Awake Pinellas.

"Our intention is to encourage a sustainable transit plan that will keep our region economically competitive and environmentally sound," said Tim Martin with Awake Pinellas in a news release. "Transit leaders should feel confident in the fact that there's a broad coalition of support behind expanding mass transit options. It goes beyond partisan politics and includes community groups, environmentalists, the business community, and those concerned with economic development."
Members will be live tweeting, blogging and taking video during Monday's ride to the 1 p.m. meeting and during the meeting.

Awake Pinellas said it is important to show support for mass transit with a growing opposition against any new plans for light rail.
In answer to strong organized opposition by regressives at past planning meetings for the county's future transit needs, supporters of smart transit planning will show up in force on Monday to strongly encourage the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) Board as it discusses future public transit needs and projects for the County.
