Teen Shooting Victim Found in St. Pete SunTrust Parking Lot

A nearby elementary school was placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon after a 16-year-old was shot nearby.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating a Wednesday afternoon shooting that sent a 16-year-old boy to the hospital and forced a lockdown at a nearby elementary school.

According to the agency, a report about a shooting victim in the SunTrust bank parking lot at 4142 6th St. S. came in around 1:18 p.m. When officers arrived on the scene, they found the boy. He was taken to Bayfront Health with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening, an email from the agency said.

“Because this occurred across the street from Lakewood Elementary, the school was briefly placed on lockdown as a precaution,” the email added.
