ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A driver suspected of driving under the influence slammed into an unmarked trooper’s vehicle on Interstate 275 Wednesday night, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

Matthew Rosenwald, 25, of St. Petersburg was traveling south on the highway, south of 28th Street S., in the outside lane at the time of the crash.

He entered the shoulder and hit the trooper’s parked SUV just before 10 p.m., FHP said.

The trooper’s SUV was redirected onto the interstate, where he was hit by a dump truck traveling south.

Rosenwald was arrested and charged with DUI. He was uninjured and had a blood alcohol level of .249 based on a breath sample provided, according to the agency.

The trooper, a 50-year-old assigned to the FHP’s Tampa office, suffered minor injuries.

The dump truck driver, a 49-year-old Holiday man, was uninjured in the crash.
