What’s Open, Closed In St. Petersburg After Hurricane Ian
After Hurricane Ian hit Southwest Florida, here's a look at what's open and what services are available in the St. Petersburg area.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The day after Hurricane Ian pummeled Southwest Florida — especially the Fort Myers area, where the death toll is estimated to be in the hundreds — communities are clearing debris and already focused on recovery.
In St. Petersburg, crews and residents spent the day removing debris from the roads and properties following the powerful storm.
Those in the area might be wondering what’s open in the city — from government offices and services to local attractions and cultural institutions, and even restaurants — or what might be opening soon.

Government Offices, Services
- The city of St. Petersburg is closed for normal business operations through Friday.
- Thursday’s city council meeting was canceled. The millage rate and budget meeting scheduled Thursday was rescheduled for Oct. 6, 6 p.m., at city hall.
- Sunken Gardens is closed until further notice.
- Bayfront Health St. Petersburg’s emergency room in Pinellas Park opened Thursday at noon. All elective surgeries and procedures scheduled at all Bayfront Health St. Petersburg facilities will resume Friday. All outpatient clinics and physician offices will open Monday.
- All Bay Pines VA Healthcare System locations will remain closed for in person and procedure appointments through Saturday.
- The St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport will reopen Friday morning.
- The St. Pete Pier, Marina, Albert Whitted Airport and The Coliseum will open Friday.
- All city parks and recreation facilities will open Monday with normal programming and operating hours.
- Garbage will not be picked up Thursday in the city. It’s anticipated that garbage will be picked up on Friday. Garbage not picked up on Friday will be picked up through the weekend to ensure all routes are serviced.
- All city brush sites opened Thursday at noon. They’ll have extended hours, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., though Oct. 8.
- Pinellas County Schools will reopen Monday.
Museums, Cultural Institutions
- The Dali Museum is closed through Thursday.
- The Museum of Fine Arts is closed until further notice.
- The Factory ST. Pete is closed until further notice. This weekend’s events are postponed.
- The Imagine Museum is closed until further notice.
- The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art is closed through Thursday.
- All Morean Arts Center facilities will reopen Friday at noon.
- AMC Sundial 12 is closed Thursday.
