$5,000 Rewards Offered in Two Unsolved Tarpon Springs Murders

Detectives are still searching for suspects and motives in two 2012 cases, the Dec. 7 murder of 73-year-old Eddie Dixon and the July 31 killing of 48-year-old Luther Shaw.

The Tarpon Springs Police Department is offering $5,000 rewards in connection with two unsolved murders, it announced Wednesday.

Detectives are still searching for suspects in the murder of Eddie Dixon, 73, who was found slain Dec. 7 in his North Ring Avenue apartment. There were no signs of forced entry or a struggle, and police say they have not identified a motive.

Dixon's family members recently held a candlelight vigil in Dixon's memory and told media outlets they don't know who would want to hurt the war veteran and father of seven.

A reward is also offered in the July 31 killing of 48-year-old Luther Shaw, who was found shot dead and found lying in the roadway on South Safford Avenue near East Harrison Street.

The motive in that case is unknown, and police said they have not identified any suspects.

"Tarpon Springs Detectives continue to investigate leads in these cases, but are hopeful that someone has additional information that could help bring the person(s) responsible for these crimes to justice," Capt. Jeffrey Young said in a media release.

Detectives do not believe the same suspect or suspects is involved in the two cases, Young said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Tarpon Springs Police at 727-938-2849. The rewards will be given for information leading to the arrest and successful prosecution of whoever is responsible for either crime. Additional rewards are being offered through Crime Stoppers of Pinellas County.
