Artist Spotlight: Judi Honiker
After discovering her passion for photography more than a decade ago, Honiker has established herself as a genuine talent in the local art world.
Judi Honiker, 59, is the first artist to be featured in this new monthly column, Artist Spotlight.
Honiker is a local nature photographer with an education in commercial photography. During her schooling, Honiker was a member of the Pinellas Authors and Writers Association where she wrote haiku poetry and found her love for photography.
It was a lifelong dream for Honiker and her husband to travel the country, capturing life through photographs. The dreams were cut short in 2003 when Honiker’s husband passed away.
“He was my greatest support,” Honiker wrote in an email.
Shortly after his death, Honiker put photography on the back burner. However, within the last year she has rediscovered her love for the artform.
Now, Honiker’s work is featured all around the area, including on the walls of Artistic Studio 30 in Tarpon Springs. She says that the community inspires her and that she, “always enjoyed photographing the area.”
As far as the future goes, Honiker knows all too well the importance of seizing the day.
In an ideal world, Honiker hopes to “continue creating beautiful images, along with the blend of haiku” and share her work with the world.
