Hot Seats for a Good Cause

The Hot Seat program is underway in Tarpon Springs, marking its fifth year of success.

Folks are invited to come out, paint a chair and enjoy some fun with other families. The chairs will then be auctioned off later in the year to raised funds for a local youth in need. This year, 11-year-old Cameron will be the recipient of the donation.

Daniela Smyth of the Tarpon Springs Recreation Division says that the event used to be a lot smaller, but has gained so much momentum that organizers are looking for continued community support.

The event is a group effort with the organization skills of the recreation division and some hunting help from the Tarpon Springs Chamber of Commerce. Chamber president, Sue Thomas, has been in and out of thrift stores for months finding chairs that can be painted for the fundraiser.

Artists are encouraged to come and lend a hand to young painters. Smyth says that other needs include sanders and chair movers. The group is also looking for chair donations or residents can drop them off at 400 South Walton Avenue.

The public is invited to come take part in the charity event tonight at Craig Park (1 Library Lane) at 5:30pm.
