Is New Tarpon Springs Land for Wawa?

Tarpon Springs is now bigger by .9 acre.

The Pinellas County Commission okayed annexing a .9-acre plot of land in unincorporated Palm Harbor to Tarpon Springs.

The reason? It may enable a Wawa convenience store to be developed. 

"The current property owner and the company that desires to purchase and redevelop the property at the southwest corner of the intersection of US Highway 19 and Klosterman Road have requested that the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) approve annexation of this property by the City of Tarpon Springs," according to county documents.

Pinellas County Commissioners approved the measure this week.

While county documents show the store will probably be a Wawa, according to the Beacon Leader, no official announcement has been made.

Wawa has not yet made a public announcement of plans to build in Tarpon Springs and Tarpon Springs is not listed as a future location on its website, www.wawa.com. Four stores have recently opened in Tampa Bay, including one in Pinellas Park.
