A pickup truck stolen from the City of Tarpon Springs earlier this month has been recovered.

TARPON SPRINGS, FL – A City of Tarpon Springs pickup truck swiped earlier this month has been recovered, but police say just who took it remains a mystery.

The Tarpon Springs Police Department announced the truck’s recovery on Thursday morning. It seems the pickup was found on Oakview Lane in Plant City just before 8:30 p.m. May 24. While no damage was discovered, authorities say the thief did take the time to remove distinctive city logos from its doors and the yellow city license plate it once had.

The theft occurred when an employee in the city's building maintenance department stopped by the Lowe’s at 41800 U.S. 19 N. just before 7 a.m. May 12. As the worker was picking up materials for the city, the truck was left unattended and turned off. The keys, however, were left in the ignition, the police department wrote in an email to media.

While the truck sat in the loading area, a man on a bicycle rode up to the truck, police say, got in and then look off north out of the parking lot. The man left the bicycle behind, authorities say.
