Sunset Beach Boat Ramp Closing For Replacement
Boaters will have to find a place other than Sunset Beach to launch for a few weeks.

TARPON SPRINGS, FL — Tampa Bay area boaters who use the Sunset Beach ramp to launch in Tarpon Springs will have to find a new place to get in the water for a few weeks. The city has announced the ramp’s temporary closing for construction.
According to the city, the ramp will close on Monday, March 6, and will be off limits for about three weeks. The remainder of the beach will be open during construction, the city noted.
The project, estimated to cost less than $103,000, includes replacing the ramp with one that features new base material and a vermiculated black surface, the city said. Dredging to allow for easier launching and extraction at low tides is also planned. A marked channel will also be created to help boaters in and out of the area in an attempt to protect sea grasses that grow along the flats.
