Tarpon Choir Vies in National Competition

The students will perform songs made famous by Lady Gaga, Coldplay and Michael Jackson for their 20-minute performance.

Tarpon Springs High School's show choir is among a Top 10 list of high school choirs invted to a national competition, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Students departed Wednesday to compete at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tenn. They will perform pieces made famous by Michael Jackson, Coldplay and Lady Gaga. The shows are choreographed and the students perform in costume.

Syndicated Sound, the school's show choir, and an all girls' show choir at the school are in the competition. A nine-piece school band accompanies them.

Just being invited was quite an honor. Tarpon Springs is the only Florida high school to attend.

Tarpon Springs was invited one other time to compete. That was back in 2006, and the school came in fifth place, according to the Tribune.

Choir Director Chuck Cheeseman said that he always is "blown away" by the talent of his students.
