Albany State Mass Shooting Suspect Charged With Aggravated Assault

The GBI on Friday said an 18-year-old is charged in connection with the Albany State homecoming shooting that killed a person and injured 4.

ALBANY, GA — A man has been arrested nearly two weeks after a mass shooting claimed the lives of a 19-year-old Newnan resident and injured four others at Albany State University's homecoming weekend.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Friday that Jeremy Marshall, 18, of Albany, is facing charges in connection with the deadly shooting.

Marshall was charged on suspicion of three counts of aggravated assault and three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, the GBI said. He is being held in the Dougherty County Jail.

The shooting took place on Sept. 19 at an evening campus concert. The GBI said the area was crowded at the time.

Authorities identified De’Marion Tashawn Daniels as the person killed in the shooting. The GBI said Daniels was not a student at ASU.

A bullet grazed a 20-year-old woman, the GBI said. Additionally, the GBI said a 13-year-old Albany girl, a 17-year-old high-school female student and a 16-year-old high-school female student suffered from gunshot wounds.

A fifth person was injured while attempting to flee, but the GBI said the person was not shot.

The shooting prompted a campus lockdown at ASU while officers searched for suspects.
