Child Kidnap Attempt Foiled; Man Charged In Acworth

Acworth Police say the 56-year-old Kennesaw man asked a mom about Tylenol before trying to snatch her child, an attempt which was thwarted.

ACWORTH, GA — A 56-year-old man who was accused of attempting to snatch a child away from their mother while at a Cobb Parkway retail store is facing charges, Acworth Police said Saturday.

Police said the attempted kidnapping happened Tuesday in the 3100 block of Cobb Parkway.

The man, who police identified as Kennesaw resident Mahendra Patel, was accused of approaching the mother to inquire about Tylenol before grabbing her child and trying to "pull the child away from the mother," police said.

However, the attempt was thwarted when the mother broke her child away from the man, who then fled the area, police said. The child was not injured, police said.

Through the investigation, police said they charged Patel on suspicion of simple assault, simple battery and kidnapping. He was being held in the Cobb County Jail without bond, police said.
