Jury Convicts Cherokee Man On Child Molestation Charges

Cherokee prosecutors say the 45-year-old man spent several months sexually assaulting a child who was around 8-years-old.

ACWORTH, GA — An Acworth man was convicted of two counts of child molestation after being accused of sexually assaulting a child, Cherokee County District Attorney Susan K. Treadaway said Thursday.

A jury on Wednesday deliberated for less than 30 minutes before finding Dustin Luther Wilkes, 45, guilty of all charges following a two-day trial, prosecutors said.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office first began investigating Wilkes in December 2023 after a child, who was around 8-years-old at the time, disclosed the sexual assault, prosecutors said. They added the assault continued for several months.

Wilkes, who was known to the child, told her not to tell anyone about the assault, prosecutors said.
