Local Kids With Cancer Receive Gifts After a Mother's Loss
Acworth mom starts organization to help others

Just last year, in November of 2021, Lexi Robertson lost her toddler, Cayden, to an aggressive liver cancer. This Christmas, her new organization, Cancer Kid's Resources has helped other kids going through the trials of cancer to feel loved. Coming together with other caring individuals in the community, they were able to give 60 gift packages to local children with cancer.
Cayden Robertson (3/2020-11/2021) received treatment at CHOA Scottish Rite and CHOA Egleston during his nine month fight against a very rare Malignant Rhabdoid Tumor located on his liver. During this time, the thoughtful gifts and care of others helped keep his family's spirits strong for the most difficult fight of their lives.
"I will always remember how the teddy bears and toys would light up his day, when we were kept in the hospital days and weeks longer than expected for treatments," his mom, Lexi shares. "I want to share that same hope and care with others because I know the fight is so hard and it's so needed. It's also therapeutic for me, after my loss."

Others at her church heard the idea and wanted to help. They told her it was their pleasure to bring together their families to make a difference for others who need help this holiday season. Together, they packed board games, dolls, toys, teddies and more for the children who are staying in the hospital this holiday season.
"It feels good to volunteer to help. I want to do that more often," one of the group members shared.

Cancer Kid's Resources will continue to share light and love with children going through cancer. They created a special coloring book to help them feel recognized and use coping skills. They also look forward to sharing more opportunities for community members to give packages and uplift the families fighting one of life's toughest battles.
