Toddler Ingests THC; Cobb Daycare Worker Charged: Police

Police say a 20-month-old girl ingested a suspected THC product that had been retrieved from a Cobb daycare worker's pocket.

ACWORTH, GA — A Kennesaw daycare worker is facing cruelty to children charges after Acworth Police said THC was found in a 20-month-old child girl's system.

Police on Wednesday said they responded on Feb. 18 to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where the child was being treated for being unusually lethargic.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) was found in the child's system, police said. The child's status was not immediately known.

During the investigation, police said they determined the child ingested a suspected THC product that had been retrieved from a worker's pocket at Laugh and Learn Day Care in Kennesaw.

Zyraina Stanice Fu'cia, 24, of Acworth, was arrested and charged on suspicion of reckless conduct and second-degree cruelty to children, police said. She was released on bond from the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, police said.

A representative for the daycare sent the following statement to Fox 5 Atlanta:

"We are aware of, and troubled by, the news of an incident involving a person affiliated with Laugh and Learn Early Learning Center in Kennesaw. The actions of this individual do not reflect our organization’s values, standards of care or commitment to child safety. We have conducted our own internal investigation and terminated this individual. We are also fully cooperating with the authorities and will continue to do so throughout their investigation."

The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning is joining Acworth Police in investigating Laugh and Learn, Fox 5 reported.
