1. Dougherty County property tax public hearings rescheduled (albanyherald.com) — Dougherty County homeowners face a proposed 16% millage rate increase that would raise 2025 property tax bills, with Albany residents seeing about $146–$152 more on a $125,000 home. Public hearings at the Albany-Dougherty Government Center start next week, and bills—covering county, city of Albany, and school taxes—are expected to go out late this month, with payments due by March 2.
   

2. Toys for Tots expects to serve 6,000 Albany children this Christmas (walb.com) — Thousands of Albany-area children will receive Christmas gifts this year through Toys for Tots, with Marines at Marine Corps Logistics Base helping collect donations. Georgia’s Own Credit Union’s Albany branch contributed $2,500 in toys, part of a $10,000 statewide effort, helping provide up to 15,000 toys to about 6,000 approved local kids in need.
   

3. Mercer alumna inducted into Georgia Broadcasters Hall of Fame (mercer.edu) — Longtime WALB News 10 anchor Karla Heath-Sands, a fixture in Albany since the 1990s, has been selected for the Georgia Association of Broadcasters’ 2026 Hall of Fame. She’s recognized for decades of local newscasts, her “Dialogue” community show, and deep involvement with Albany arts, service groups, and charitable efforts that spotlight and support South Georgia voices.
   

4. Allie Hemmings signs with South Georgia State (albanyherald.com) — Sherwood Christian Academy soccer standout Allie Hemmings has signed to play at South Georgia State College, celebrating the milestone at a ceremony in Albany. The daughter of Albany State baseball coach Scott Hemmings, she’ll soon join her sister on the Lady Hawks roster after one more high school season leading the Lady Eagles.
   

5. Tifton Police arrest man wanted for questioning in Albany stabbing death murder investigation (southgatv.com) — Albany police are investigating a Nov. 29 fatal stabbing in which the victim’s vehicle later turned up in Tifton, where a man wanted for questioning was arrested on separate charges. Tifton officers caught the suspect after a chase, and Albany investigators will determine his status in the homicide case. Authorities had previously considered him armed and dangerous.
