- After multiple public hearings, the Alpharetta City Council has approved the Fiscal Year 2024 Budget and millage rate. The council opted to maintain the 5.750 mills rate amid rising costs to avoid a property tax hike. The $154 million budget includes $40.2 million for public safety, including 4 percent performance-based merit raises and new staff positions for the Real-Time Crime Center and Assistant Fire Marshall. - The Alpharetta Police Department is emphasizing the importance of firearm safety as new details emerge about this month's shooting at a North Point Mall carnival. The Jun. 7 incident, which left two teens injured, was revealed to be an accidental shooting by a 15-year-old boy who possessed the firearm unlawfully. Officials urged gun owners to secure their weapons safely in holsters to avoid such incidents. (11Alive.com WXIA)
- Two new restaurants in Alpharetta have had their alcoholic beverage license applications approved by the city council. One approval was for Snooze A.M. Eatery, which opened this past Wednesday on North Point Parkway; the breakfast/brunch/lunch spot will impose a three-drink maximum for patrons. The second approval was for Eggroll Boyz, which opened approximately one year ago on Windward Parkway; staff at the restaurant will take courses on serving alcoholic beverages.
