Alpharetta Council Rejects Thompson Street Townhomes
The proposal called for constructing 63 townhomes at the corner of Thompson and Park streets.

ALPHARETTA, GA — Alpharetta leaders pushed back against a plan that would have built dozens of townhomes at an intersection close to another residential project.
The City Council at its Jan. 14 meeting voted to deny a request from Notting Hill of Alpharetta to build 63 for-sale townhomes on 2.82 acres on the southwest corner of Park and Thompson streets.
The vote tally was 6-1, with Councilman Ben Burnett against the rejection. The city notes the property was previously approved to accommodate 42 for-sale stacked flat condo units. This latest iteration is part of Phase II of the Old Milton Holdings Master Plan, a 5.68-acre property on the west side of Park Street that also includes the construction of a WellStar medical facility, according to city documents.

Notting Hill's proposal would have been built across from the Foundry, a 113-unit planned community by John Wieland Homes that would feature a mix of 25 single-family homes and 88 spacious townhomes at 208 Thompson Street.
The Notting Hill townhomes would have been constructed in 14, three-story buildings. The buildings would have been served by alleys and would be situated above structured parking, site plans obtained by the city show. Plans also included a 30-foot wide linear park along Thompson Street, and two large open greenspace areas.

Council members heard from more than a dozen residents about the project. Following the debate and discussion, there was a motion offered to table the project until the Feb. 18 City Council meeting. That effort did not get enough support among the Council members, as it was rejected with a 2-5 vote. Council members Burnett and Donald Mitchell voted in favor of the request.
The motion to deny the project was approved without prejudice.
