BOYS
Milton (16 pts-17th place) out scored 20 teams as the Eagles made the most of the great weather conditions and produced another school record. Senior Zach Patell concluded his stellar career at Milton with a runner-up finish in the 800m (2nd-1:54.07) improving on his own school record & personal best! Patell went to the front 100m into the race and fought gallantly all the way to the finish against the 1600m & cross country state champion. Fellow senior Andrew Sirras, who raced finals in 2 events (400m & 200m) on the last day of the meet after running 3 events (400m, 200m & 4x400m relay) the day before in prelims, held his own and came away with 2 medal winning performances. In the 400m, Sirras recorded a 48.52 in the preliminaries to get the final qualifying spot and then a 48.83 in the finals to nab 6th place. For the 200m, Sirras went 21.48 in the prelims, the 4th best on the day and finished 4th in the final going 21.63 which saw the winner break the state record. Others competing at the state meet were the boys 4x400m relay (3:30.76-21st) which included Patell & Sirras along with fellow senior Parker Mones & junior CJ Wiley.
GIRLS
The Lady Eagles unfortunately did not have any scorers or qualifiers for the final day of the state meet but Milton held its own with some great performances. Junior & school record holder Alana Calhoun just missed making the final of the triple jump on the first day of the meet (36’0.5”-10th). On day 2 of the meet, freshman Simone Dennis ran the 100m (12.04-10th) improving on her school record, the 200m (24.95-13th) just missing her school record & a leg of the 4x400m relay. Senior Nya Smith raced in the 400m (58.06-13th) just missing her personal best and ran the 4x400m relay (along with fellow seniors Leelah Dennis & Ella Grace Malcom and freshman Simone Dennis) running the 2nd fastest time in school history (4:02.07-10th).
