Milton Buys Land To Prevent 'Further Development'
The city will spend $1.4 million to buy 21 acres of land at the southwest corner of Birmingham and Freemanville roads.

MILTON, GA — The Milton City Council has voted to approve the purchase of 21 acres at the corner of Freemanville Road and Birmingham Road in an effort to protect the property from future development.
Council members at their Monday, Jan. 7 meeting unanimously voted to approve the purchase agreement between the city and Residential and Commercial Equities, LLC. Councilman Joe Longoria was not present.
The agreement allows the city to acquire 21.08 acres, made up of six parcels, on the southwest corner of the intersection. The price tag is $1.4 million, and the city will use its greenspace bond funds to pay for the land.

City of Milton spokesperson Shannon Ferguson said the purchase would "serve as conservation of land, preventing further development."
If these parcels were to become part of Milton's efforts to expand its parks lineup, Ferguson said she feels "confident that the city would embark on a planning process for this city property."

"With limited staff and several large-scale planning efforts already underway for the Central Milton Trail Plan and the master plan for the former Milton Country Club property, I wouldn’t anticipate a formal planning process in the near future, as the primary focus was conservation for this piece of property," she added.
