The track teams at Milton High School concluded their seasons with a flurry of top-10 all-time performances and a top-5 finish at the GHSA 5A State Track & Field Championships this past weekend.

GIRLS
Milton (5th-27 pts) may have had their best team finish in recent school history (since 2005) as the Lady Eagles turned back 40 schools to just miss a team trophy by 4-points! Milton scored from the field and the track to upset region champions Gainesville (7th-24 pts) & county-rival Chattahoochee (14th-18 pts).
The highest-placing for the Lady Eagles came from the 4x800m relay (3rd-9:35.33) that broke the 9-year old school record by close to 5-seconds! The team of sophomores Aarushi Dhawan, Lucie Gallagher & freshman Kenley Sirras & Sadie Katekovich proved their sectional win was no fluke in their podium finishing performance.
Freshman Sa’Niyah Williams scored in 3 events (running 6 races total over the 2-day meet, scoring 13 pts) including the 100m (5th-12.20), the 400m (4th-57.33) & the 200m (5th-25.25). Williams finishes the season with 3 individual & 1 relay school records!
The Lady Eagles also got points from the field as junior Alana Calhoun broke her own school record in the long jump (5th-18’1”) & placed in the triple jump (5th-36’8.5”) to tally 8 team points.
Also competing at the state meet was junior Gabrielle Michel in the shot put (10th-35’10”) besting 6 competitors.

BOYS
The Eagles turned back 25 teams as Milton (22nd-10 pts) scored from their distance runners’ performances over the 2-day meet which saw rainy & cold weather on the 2nd day of competition.
Leading off for the Eagles was the boy’s 4x800m relay (4th-7:56.49) running the 3rd best performance in school history! Senior Justin Sevel & Robert Claypoole along with junior Jayin Batra & sophomore Will Chambers defeated 12 teams & were in contention for the race win much of the race. Chambers was the workhorse for the Milton boys as he competed in 3 events & scored in two of them. Chambers raced the 1600m (12th-4:25.50) after the 4x800m relay and then came back the next day to contend for the podium in the 800m (6th-1:57.58) and scored valuable team points. The final Eagle scorer was junior Everett Lawder in the 3200m (7th-9:33.13). His medal-winning finish made him the 8th best performer in school history!
Milton had 2 performers in the field events with junior Lawson Estes (9th-6’0”) in the high jump & sophomore Harrison Sutton (10th-47’3”) in the shot put.
