Here are the top five stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:
- New laws went into effect yesterday, Jul. 1 in Georgia. Key laws that went into effect Friday include House Bill 1084 which bans the teaching of Critical Race Theory and the Parent Bill of Rights which reconfirms rights parents already have including reviewing materials in class and opting their children out of sex education classes. - Ready for Alpharetta and Milton's 4th of July celebrations this long weekend? In Alpharetta, the Wills Park fireworks will begin at dusk on Jul. 4 and you are allowed to bring a small propane grill, however, you must obtain a permit beforehand by emailing hlew@alpharetta.ga.us. Charcoal grills will not be permitted. In Milton, the Walking Parade and celebration is happening today from 10 a.m.-1 p.m and will begin at the Broadwell Pavilion - don't forget to wear red, white, and blue! - The Chicks, formerly known as the Dixie Chicks, are headed to Alpharetta's Ameris Bank Amphitheatre this July! The Chicks are back on tour after taking a break due to Natalie Maines’ vocal issues. The concert will be held on Jul. 16 with Patty Griffin as the opening act! - Another relative of a Fulton County inmate has come forward claiming were threatened to send money to the jail so their loved one would not be harmed. After making payments to the jail upwards of $200, a grandmother with a grandson in the jail was apparently violently beaten when she stopped sending money. Sheriff Pat Labat said in a statement he will "not tolerate bullying of any kind." (Fox 5 Atlanta)
- New reports have come out of two catalytic converters reported stolen within hours of one another on Jun. 19 in Alpharetta. The first took place before 10:50 a.m. on Lexington Farms Drive. The second theft took place around 1:50 p.m. outside a residence on Cicero Drive. The owners of the cars both believed the parts were stolen sometime during the night. Police reports do not indicate that the thefts were related.
