Nine School Records Lead Milton Track at GHSA Sectionals

Many School Records fall as 9 Eagles Qualify for State Meet

The Milton High School track & field teams had the best one-day meet in school history as 9 school records were posted at the GHSA 7A Sectional B Meet held at McEachern HS.

GIRLS

The Lady Eagles had five athletes qualify for the GHSA State Meet over five events while either setting or improving on six school records! Freshman Simone Dennis re-set the 100m (12.04, 5th) school record while also setting the 200m (24.92, 8th) school record that had stood since 1998! Dennis also ran legs on the record setting 4x200m relay (1:43.80, 9th) along with senior Juliana Gross, senior Nyah Smith & junior Alana Calhoun & the 4x400m relay (3:58.23, 2nd) with her sister & senior Leelah Dennis & seniors Ella Grace Malcom & Smith) to break the 8-year-old school record. Calhoun also broke the school record in the triple jump (36’11.5”-6th) & the long jump (17’4.5”-9th) the latter breaking a 10-year-old school record! Smith also qualified for the state meet in the 400m (58.01, 6th) running the 3rd best time ever at Milton.

Milton’s Girl State Meet Qualifiers: (5)
Simone Dennis (100m/200m/4x400m)
Nya Smith (400m/4x400m)
Alana Calhoun (Triple Jump)
Leelah Dennis (4x400m)
Ella Grace Malcom (4x400m)

BOYS

Led by senior Andrew Sirras, Milton qualified four athletes to the state meet over four events. Sirras improved upon his school records in the 200m (21.42, 5th) & 400m (48.16, 3rd) & then ran the fastest leg on the 4x400m relay team (4th, 3:21.49) that included junior CJ Wiley & seniors Zach Patell & Parker Mones, which broke the school record that was set in 2002! Patell (the current school record holder in the 800m) was the sectional meet winner in that event (1st, 1:54.41) in the 2nd fastest time in school history.

The 2024 season will conclude at the GHSA State 7A Championship Meet, May 9-11 at Carrollton HS in Carrollton, GA.
