Three School Records Pace Milton at Track Regionals
Lady Eagles 3rd, Boys 4th as 24 qualify for GHSA Sectionals
The Milton track & field teams competed at the GHSA 7A Region 6 Championship meet this past Wednesday at West Forsyth HS and came away with 3 school records and a large contingent qualifying for the sectional meet next weekend at McEachern HS in Powder Springs.
GIRLS
The Lady Eagles (3rd-130 pts) were paced by a balanced group of scoring from many different events while besting 3 schools. Milton was led by junior Alana Calhoun who broke the 7-year-old school record in the triple jump (2nd-35’10”), ran a leg on the school record setting 4x200m relay (2nd-1:45.25) and qualified for sectionals in the long jump (3rd-16’3.25”) & also scored in the 100m (5th-12.93) in a personal best performance. Other members of the record-setting 4x200m relay included freshman Simone Dennis (4th-12.25 in the 100m & 4th-25.69 in the 200m), seniors Juliana Gross & 400m region champion Nya Smith (1st-58.81). Smith & Dennis then teamed up with seniors Leelah Dennis (5th-2:23.70, 800m & ran a leg on the sectional qualifying 4x800m relay) and 800m runner-up senior & GA Tech commit Ella Grace Malcom (2nd-2:22.61, 800m) to win the 4x400m relay (1st-4:06.01) to close out the meet.
Other sectional qualifiers included freshman Aarushi Dhawan and seniors Calista Cacciatore & Emerson Armistead in the 4x800m relay, junior Brynn Scheel in BOTH the 100m hurdles & 300m hurdles & senior Sky Philpott & sophomore Gabby Michel in the shot put.
BOYS
Milton qualified 12 athletes on to the sectional meet in many different events. The Eagles (4th-93 pts) bested 2 schools and were led by the exceptional running of senior Andrew Sirras. His school record in the 200m (2nd-21.66) broke a 6-year-old record and was run from the slowest section to capture runner-up honors. He followed that up in the 400m (3rd-49.40) & a leg on the runner-up 4x400m (2nd-3:27.60, the 10th best performance in school history) relay team with fellow seniors Parker Mones & Zach Patell (who was runner-up in the 800m, 2nd-1:56.27) & junior CJ Wiley who was 3rd in the 200m-22.00 & 6th in the 100m-11.11. Other runners-up were junior Noah Vinson in the long jump (2nd-20’3.5”) & senior Riley Rushing in the 6th-best shot-put throw in school history (2nd-47’5.5”)!
Other sectional qualifiers included sophomore Lawson Estes in the long & triple jumps, freshman Harrison Sutton in the shot put and the 4x200m relay team of juniors Noah Vinson & Dylan Griffin along with sophomores Billy Weivoda & Tristan Lester.

Next up is the GHSA “B” Sectional Meet on Saturday, May 4th at McEachern HS where the top-8 finishers in each event qualify for the GHSA State Championship which will be held May 9-11 at Carrollton HS.
