Burglars in Athens Snatch Cash, Electronics and Purses

Athens-Clarke County Police Officers on Tuesday were called to investigate multiple reports of burglaries and thefts.Β  Here's a summary of those calls:

  • A Magnolia Street residence was entered sometime between 8 a.m. on Feb. 3 and 4 p.m. on Feb. 4. A purse with contents valued at $13 was stolen.
  • A resident of Camelot Drive said someone burglarized her home sometime between 7:30 and 11 a.m. on Feb. 5. A lap top, iPod touch, gaming system, and Wii games, collectively valued at $1,310, were stolen.
  • Between 7:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Feb. 5, the Al Hud Islamic Center on S. Milledge Avenue was burglarized. Approximately $300 was stolen.
  • An Auburn woman told police she is moving out of a West Broad Street residence. Between midnight on Dec. 5 and 3 p.m. on Feb. 5, the location was burglarized. Bar stools, DVDs, video tapes, kitchen items, spices, jewelry, a digital converter, cellphone, household items, camera, clothing, and food items were stolen. Over $1,300 worth of items were taken.
  • Officers responded to an alarm at an Upland Court duplex just before 9 p.m.. Someone had forcibly entered the duplex. As they checked the home, the resident arrived. She said some items had been moved around but nothing appeared to be missing. Officers noticed an attempt had been made to enter a storage shed at the other duplex.
  • A Honda power auger, valued at $2,500 was stolen from a Hull Road residence sometime between 5 p.m. on Jan. 31 and noon on Feb. 5. The auger is black and blue in color with a 2.5 hp motor.
