'Fighting White People Is A Skill' | UGA Assistant Under Fire

ATHENS, GA -- The University of Georgia is investigating comments made by one of its academic assistants, who said in a social media post that "fighting white people is a skill" and that "some white people have to die for black communities to be made whole in this struggle to advance to freedom.”

In a statement, UGA officials said the school “has been vigorously exploring all available legal options" regarding recent postings and comments made by Irami Osei-Frampong, a teaching assistant who publishes a YouTube channel called The Funky Academic." Last Friday, his video said black people aren't taught how to fight white people "on their whiteness."

"Racism has no place on our campus, and we condemn the advocacy or suggestion of violence in any form," the university said. "We are seeking guidance from the Office of the Attorney General as to what actions we can legally consider in accordance with the First Amendment.”

Osei-Frampong is a a philosophy graduate student by the university as a teacher's assistant. His Facebook postings and YouTube account feature frequent articles about race relations in America. Earlier this week, he said on Facebook that "the idea that some White people may have to die for freedom isn't particularly shocking. We have a standing army and an armed domestic police force. I think what's offensive is the notion that some White people may have to die for Black people to be free."

The blogger also has said in the past that black people are not allowed to interact with white people.

Osei-Frampong has been a teaching assistant since 2016, the school said.
