• Athens man rescued from burning house released from Augusta burn unit (onlineathens.com) — A 76-year-old Athens man rescued from a Christmas Eve house fire on North Avenue has been released from the Augusta Burn Center and is expected to fully recover, officials say. Athens-Clarke County firefighters found him unconscious in an abandoned home used by squatters, and leaders are praising the coordinated, rapid response that saved his life while the fire’s cause remains under investigation.
   

• Death of 2-year-old child in Athens remains under investigation (onlineathens.com) — Athens-Clarke police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy found unresponsive at his home off South Barnett Shoals Road early Dec. 26. Officers, paramedics, and the forensic team responded, and an autopsy has been ordered, but authorities say the cause of death has not yet been determined.
   

• Oconee Blotter: Pickup stolen while man eats meal at steakhouse (onlineathens.com) — Recent Oconee County incident reports include a local man’s pickup stolen outside Texas Roadhouse, multiple alcohol-fueled fights at Wire Park that led to disorderly conduct charges and bans, and a scooter theft involving an Athens man who said he was desperate before Christmas. Deputies also handled a DUI case and a serious speeding stop in a school zone.
