From Public Pool To Resort — 5 Kinds Of Swimming Adventures In Atlanta

When the weather is warm, nothing cools you off or makes the day feel better than a swim. We found different types of swimming locations.

ATLANTA, GA — Come on in, the water is fine! As the heat beats down, nothing is quite as refreshing as a dip in the water. If you aren't lucky enough to have your own pool, or you just want to try out some exciting other options, check out our list of places for swimming in and around Atlanta. We chose five different types of swimming options so everyone can find a location that suits them. Enjoy!

  • Thompson Creek Rockmart Swimming Hole is a hidden gem, literally. In order to find the swimming hole, you need to hike the Silver Comet Trail until you reach the Rockmart quarry, which is near Thompson Creek. Be careful, please. Once you're there, you can launch yourself into the watery expanse from a concrete base of an old pump station. Sure, it takes a bit more work to get here than the others on the list, but summer is all about adventure!
  • If relaxing is more your speed, this swimming experience might be the one for you. Shoot the Hooch offers several different ways to experience the Chattahoochee River in a leisurely fashion. It rents rafts, kayaks and tubes, and then visitors cruise down the river at their own speed. This experience is family friendly as well — anyone 5 years old and over can participate. Plus, you can rent a cooler tube, and bring your own cooler full of whatever ice-cold drinks you want.
  • Swim in luxury. This option is not the backyard pool, for sure. Lake Lanier Islands Resort is an entire resort destination that is so swanky, you won't want to come home. Even the amenities have amenities. The best part: You don't have to go all the way to New England (which inspired some of the resort design) for the heated saltwater lounging pool. The resort is located less than an hour north of Atlanta.
  • What says family fun more than a theme park? Nothing does. Don't forget about a special swimming location right in Atlanta. The Atlanta Ocean Wave Pool at Six Flags White Water is fun for everyone, plus you can enjoy plenty of other water-related activities at the park.
  • Obviously, everyone cannot go to theme parks and luxury resorts every day — so for the last option, we have a free standby that never lets us down when we need a dip in the pool. Atlanta public pools are open and ready for business. Take note of the update of the Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation website that a few pools remain closed, and confirm that your nearest location is open.

Happy swimming!
