ATLANTA, GA — A student at Druid Hills High School in Atlanta was arrested Thursday after the school went into lockdown and Emory University students and staff were told to shelter in place because of a possible armed suspect in the area.

The student was arrested around 4 p.m. and will be charged with aggravated assault and carrying a gun in a school safety zone, DeKalb County School District Police Chief Bradley Gober said at a news conference.

Other students reported to school officials that they thought the student brought a gun to school. Officers couldn't find the student on the school's campus, leading to a search in the surrounding area, police said. Emory police found the student on the university campus after searching for hours.
