Atlanta Chef Beats Bobby Flay At His Own Game

ATLANTA, GA — Atlanta chef Ian Winslade pulled off quite a challenge Thursday night. As a part of the popular cooking show "Beat Bobby Flay," in which professional chefs take on the celebrity chef in a variety of culinary challenges, Winslade did just that: he beat Bobby Flay.

"It’s been so hard keeping this a secret from my friends, family and supporters of the restaurant," he said in a press release of the challenge, which actually took place in April, but was just broadcasted Thursday night.

"The show really pushed me out of my comfort zone. Everything was over in the blink of an eye, but it was such an incredible experience that I will never forget," said Winslade of Atlanta's Mission + Market.

To begin the challenge, Winslade was pitted against Southern chef Geoff Rhyne in an Asian pear challenge. Winslade won the chance to try to beat Bobby with his Asian pear salad with Fresno chile, ginger and a Yuzu vinagrette, the release says.

Then came the challenge against Flay. He chose his signature dish, a Fisherman's Pie, that both master chefs would take on. The judges then would decide whose was better, not knowing which dish was made by which chef.

"It was a traditional dish I grew up eating as a kid, and it perfectly showcased my roots growing up in Waltham Chase, England," Winslade said in the release.

"It’s extremely challenging to produce a high-quality fish dish in such a high-intensity environment and short time frame – 45 minutes to be exact. Competing against Bobby and walking away with a win was definitely a bucket list item for me," he said.
