Atlanta Officer Shoots Driver Speeding Toward Him: Police

Incident comes one day after Atlanta police release video of fatal officer-involved shooting.

ATLANTA, GA -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Atlanta on Saturday night, Patch has learned.

An off-duty Atlanta police officer was directing traffic about 10 p.m. just off Northside Drive as part of another job when he encountered a white Ford 350 van, police said.

The driver "disregarded the officer’s traffic directions and drove in the direction of the officer," according to the GBI. As the van sped toward him, the officer shot the driver, a 46-year-old man from North Carolina.
