Here's a List of City & County Offices Closed For New Year's

METRO ATLANTA, GA -- If you want to pay a visit to your county government office to pay your water bill or check on your electricity usage, you're going to have to wait until the holiday season officially ends.

Holiday closings schedules are the rage right now as residents looking to handle business with the county or city need to plan ahead. Patch has compiled the government holiday schedules of the four primary counties in metro Atlanta.

Here the the holiday closings for Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton and Atlanta services:

Cobb County

All Cobb County Government offices will also be closed Monday, Jan. 2, in observance of New Year’s Day.

The Cobb County Public Library System will be closed for New Years on Monday, Jan. 2, 2017 and Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 16.

The city of Marietta offices will be closed New Year's Day - Friday, Jan. 1, 2017. The city will also be closed for Martin Luther King Day - Monday, Jan. 16.

The city of Smryna's sanitation/recycling schedule for the holidays is as follows: New Years -- observed Monday, Jan. 2, 2017:

• Monday routes picked up on Tuesday.
• Tuesday routes picked up Wednesday.
• Thursday and Friday routes unchanged.
• No yard waste or large items this week.

DeKalb County

DeKalb County Government offices will also be closed Monday, Jan. 2, in observance of New Year’s Day and Monday, Jan. 16 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

DeKalb County Sanitation says that collection services will not run on Monday, Jan. 2, but will run one day late through Friday.

The city of Decatur's Solid Waste & Recycling schedule is as follows:

Holiday observed on Monday, Jan. 2 -- collected on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017.

Holiday observed on Tuesday, Jan. 3 -- collected on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017.

The Decatur City Commission meetings are held on the first and third Mondays of every month unless there is a Monday holiday. The January and February meetings are affected by the New Year’s holiday, MLK holiday and Presidents Day, and will be held:

•Tuesday, Jan. 3
•Tuesday, Jan. 17

Fulton County

Fulton County offices and facilities will be closed in observance of New Year’s Day, which will be observed Monday, Jan. 2. Functions will also cease for Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday Monday, January 18, 2016 (3rd Monday in January). The county has also released the complete holiday schedule for 2017.

Fulton Animal Services will be closed on Dec. 31, 2016, Jan. 1 and Jan. 2, 2017.

The Fulton County Library will be closed for the following holidays in January: New Year’s Holiday (Jan. 2); Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 18).

City of Atlanta

City of Atlanta administrative offices and facilities will be closed in observance of New Year’s Day, which will be observed Monday, Jan. 2. Functions will also cease for Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday Monday, January 18, 2016 (3rd Monday in January).

The Municipal Court of Atlanta will observe New Year’s Day on Monday, Jan. 2, 2017. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday will be observed Monday, Jan. 16, 2017 (3rd Monday in January).

The Georgia Department of Driver Services, which has several offices around metro Atlanta, will be closed Monday, Jan. 2 in observance of New Year's Day. The full DDS holiday schedule for 2017 is available here.

Gwinnett County

All offices, with the exception of those operations required for the comfort and safety of the citizens of Gwinnett County, will be closed on Monday, Jan. 2. See Patch.com for more Gwinnett closings.
