40 MPH Gusts Bring Power Outages, Wind Advisory In GA

Predicted wind gusts of 35 to 40 mph triggered a wind advisory Wednesday after storms slammed Georgia. Over 15K power outages were reported.

ATLANTA, GA — A wind advisory remains in effect for several Georgia counties until 7 p.m. Wednesday after rounds of heavy rainfall soaked the state.

The National Weather Service issued the advisory due to northwest winds of 15-20 mph that have the potential to reach gusts between 35 and 40 mph.

The site PowerOutage.us reported more than 15,000 utility customers without electricity Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier Wednesday, the NWS predicted the Atlanta area received around 2-3 inches of rain in the past 48 hours. While it seems no parts of Georgia were spared from the downpour, the heaviest of the rainfall appeared to be concentrated in the central region.

The NWS warned saturated grounds may force trees to fall in storm areas.

On Tuesday, the NWS told Patch that flooding could be a primary concern; however, on Wednesday, the weather officials said that threat has since plummeted.

Declining temperatures will cover north and central Georgia, including areas from Clarke County to Fulton County to Paulding County.

Afterward, the rain may not return until Saturday night, according to the forecast.
