GA Infant Who Died From COVID-19 Is The Youngest Virus Fatality In The State

A Houston County infant with underlying conditions died from COVID-19, making him the youngest Georgia fatality to the virus, officials say.

GEORGIA — A Houston County infant has been identified as the youngest COVID-19 death recorded in Georgia, state officials said.

The 4-month-old died last week from the virus, Georgia Depart of Public Health officials said. The young boy had an underlying condition, according to state records.

The infant now adds to the number of individuals who are pushing the nation closer to the grim milestone of 800,000 deaths, which public health officials expect the nation to reach in days.

The child is the second infant — that is, younger than 1 year old — to be killed in this state by the virus, according to DPH records. A Walker County infant also Died from COVID-19, officials said.

As omicron, a new variant of COVID-19, emerged earlier this month in Georgia, health officials recommend that the public get vaccinated and that those who have taken the vaccine more than six ago get the booster.
