Here are the top five stories today in Atlanta:
- A 56-year-old pharmacist and gynecologist, Anthony Mills, has recently pleaded guilty to illegally supplying pills to Atlanta drug dealers. Since at least 2018, Mills has been dealing pills from his home in Atlanta. The pharmacist who filed the prescriptions will be facing charges as well. He will be pleading guilty to conspiracy to unlawfully dispense and distribute controlled substances, and will now be facing sentencing this February. (Subscription: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
- Michael Julian Bond, an Atlanta City Councilman, has proposed the idea of making an equity center out of the current Atlanta Medical Center. This proposal conflicts the current proposals of keeping the center a medical facility. The Atlanta Medical Center is set to close in next month and, contrary to the proposals to create the equity center in the old detention center, Bond has suggested the center be used to help solve the overpopulation problem in jails. - Due to a water main break repair, two hydrants are without water, causing 20 Atlanta homes to be without water. The break is still being worked on for repair, and officials are unsure when the homes will have their water back. Forty homes on Detroit Avenue also briefly had their water disrupted because the valves were being inspected on three hydrants. (Atlanta Patch)
- An Atlanta brewery, Monday Night Brewing, will be competing in the Great American Beer Festival in Denver this year. Their popular brews, Falling Star, Hop Hut, Imaginary Grace, Space Lettuce, and Tie XI, will compete against beers from all over the country for individual medals along with the "Brewer of the Year" title. The event will take place this weekend, and the brewery is hoping to bring a few medals back to Atlanta. (Atlanta Patch)
- A man who stole a Decatur woman's car may be in the Atlanta area. The man approached a woman who was sitting in her parked car on Friday, held her at gunpoint, and then told her to exit the vehicle. The car was recovered, but police have yet to find the suspect. Anyone who has information about who or where the suspect is located is asked to contact the Decatur Police Department. (WSB Atlanta)
