Here are the top five stories in Atlanta today:

  1. Atlanta Police have arrested a local man responsible for several grass fires in Buckhead. On Monday night, firefighters worked to extinguish fires in minutes and no one was hurt. Michael John London, 36, was charged with criminal damage to property and possession of explosives. Police have not yet revealed the type of explosives. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  2. A woman driving for Lyft was carjacked at gunpoint after picking up two passengers on Central Ave at 11:00 p.m. During the ride, one of the men pulled out a gun and told the woman to get out of the car once they reached their destination. The woman was not hurt, but her BMW was stolen. (WSB Atlanta)
  3. The Placita Latina Festival is hosting an artist showcase at the Decatur Visitors Center. The theme is “Celebrating Our Collective Culture” and can be viewed Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Decaturish.com )
  4. A car participating in the Atlanta Pride parade caught on fire along the Midtown route on Sunday. The fire department was also participating in the parade and made a U-turn to extinguish the fire. The parade was delayed for 30 minutes due to the fire. No injuries have been reported at this time.   5. An Atlanta teen was shot while at home around 1:00 a.m. on Monday. The 13-year-old was taken to a hospital. Police said a person in a white vehicle shot at the house multiple times. The boy's mother was also home but was not injured. (Atlanta Patch)

  • Atlanta City Council members joined the community to recognize a Global Day of Action for Iran. The Atlanta City Council approved a resolution condemning Iran for its violent actions against women. (Atlanta City Council via Facebook)
  • Lanes on I-75 have reopened after a massive blockage on Monday morning. All lanes were originally blocked due to a wreck. Drivers were encouraged to take Highway 138 instead. At this time, it is unclear if there are any injuries as a result of the wreck. (Atlanta Patch)
  • REMINDER: Starting this Fall, MARTA will begin repaving 12 rail station parking lots. The renovation aims to improve transit experience, enhance accessibility, and prioritize safety. (MARTA via Facebook)
