Botched Store-Bought Hanukkah Cake Reads 'Merry Christmas'

Facebook post of cake made in Thomasville 'horrifically awesome,' says one commenter.

THOMASVILLE, GA -- It seemed like an easy task. Go to the grocery store bakery and get them to create a fantastic food in honor of Hanukkah. Piece of cake, right?

Not exactly, at least according to Ben Altman, who took to Facebook to share a photo of a Hanukkah cake that was done in Thomasville.

The cake may taste like heaven, but it has some comical design flaws that go awry of the Jewish faith.

“This is what happens when you order a cake for a Hannukah [sic] party in Thomasville, GA,” Altman says his brother remarked about the cake. Altman hashtagged Publix in the post, the apparent culprit of the botched cake.

"That is horrifically awesome," says one Facebook commenter. Another says, "This is what Google is for."

Despite the obvious "Merry Christmas!" salutation, which is not kosher at all, there are other things amiss with the cake.

For one, the menorah for Hanukkah is a candelabrum, which should have nine branches. This one has seven, and still it has no shamash, or off-set candle, which would signify a helper or servant. In other words, this cake ... takes the cake, when it comes to bad design.

Was the designer just being creative? Were they in a rush? We'll never know. We'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt though. After all, it is the holidays and if we can't be of good cheer about these sorts of things, then we're missing the point, right?

The Jewish holiday began Saturday, Dec. 24 and will run until New Year's Day. That means there's still time for other bakers around the United States to jack up your Hanukkah cake.
